Uncommon: Common Ground
An Invitation to All
Where discourse has been weaponized
Truth cannot be discerned
Each camp feels they’re legitimized
The others should be burned
Use blaming, shaming, outright lies
Tear down the other side
The more that we dehumanize
The more we feed our pride
This cycle has been super-sized
Behind the scenes enflamed
Corruptly institutionalized
Manipulation’s game
For money will they capitalize
For power and for fame
While others make it spiritualized
Controlling in God’s name
It’s hard to not be victimized
The system is bereft
The way it’s all politicized
Harms both the right and left
It makes you feel desensitized
It robs you of your voice
But each of us is authorized
To use the power of choice
It must begin internalized
A matter of the heart
When what we’re for is realized
We have a place to start
And as we individualize
The way ahead unclear
We have to open up our eyes
And step away from fear
No longer can we demonize
The “other” that we face
Our misconceptions exorcized
Reveal a way to grace
That as we seek to harmonize
Where what was lost gets found
Is where we learn to emphasize
Discovered common ground
Diversity then recognized
Creates an upward slope
In unity there can arise
A more abiding hope
